  Skydiving Community

Have you wondered why people keep coming back for more and more skydiving? Well the answer is community.

Target Skysports skydivers are a close knit group of people. Every weekend, you can find regular skydivers staying over at the dropzone. Jumping with your friends over the Lincolnshire countryside is not the only reason to skydive. In the UK you will find jumpers who regularly travel long distances to be coached, organised, compete in competitions and enjoy big parties at the centre.

  Weekend 12th - 13th April 2008

Skydive Choreography's "Random Challenge" was hosted by Caroline Hughes on the 12th - 13th April at Hibaldstow Dropzone.

The random challenge part of this event was a well thought out series of group and individual challenges, which the groups or individuals could accept or nominate another prior to knowing what the mystery challenge was.

Some of the challenges involved included the almost forgotten skills of leg locking, usually seen on formations larger than 4-way. Another excellent challenge was having the formation split into a 4way and 8way, which then directly competed against each other. The aim being for the 4way to maintain the levels with the 8way and turn 3 times as many points.

One of the more interesting individual challenges devised was an awareness challenge, where the two skydivers had to dock on the end of an open accordion completing a line of 4, before the formation was keyed to the next stage. Easier said than done, as it required the skydivers being challenged to become aware of the bigger picture and to visualise what was likely to happen in order to obtain the most points.

A group challenge that served to make all involved, act almost as group organisers. The challenge to build 3 points in the formations using specific grips without being able to dirt dive. This clever technique forced everyone to analyse the current build situation before going to take a grip themselves.

A variation on the above, was to leave the group to discuss among themselves about how to achieve a dock with both hands, a cat formation, and a dock with one hand, all in the same skydive with the least effort involved.

If you want to improve your big way skills, or just want to get into the big way scene, then skydive choreography may be just the thing you are looking for.

Remember, the next event is scheduled for April 26th - 27th and is the "Big way Beginners" weekend at Hibaldstow drop zone. All you need is 50 jumps post FS1, good canopy awareness and control, and to be able to achieve a consistent 6pt 4way.
