Ade Green - 3rd August 2005

Half way through the FS Nationals, its seem appropriate to include an FS competitor in the next TS Team Interview. Ade Green is well known at Hibaldstow as a fun jumper and instructor. This year he is competing in the 4-way event as well as doing AFF at other weekends. Ade also has the glory of being on the winning Army 9 team a few years ago.

Interview by Simon Brentford

  4 Name Adrian Green
  4 Age 38 years old (I know I don't look it)
4 Years in the sport 15
4 Number of jumps Over 2500
4 Number of jumps last year 92 (my fewest since I started and only about 8 were in England)
4 What kit do you jump Springo 110 in an Atom

1 Why did you start jumping?
I started jumping in March 1990, by doing a static line round course at Headcorn.  I did 7 jumps, got onto DPs and that was as far as I was ever going to get.  I then went to the first Gulf war came back and did an AFF course at Zephyrhills in Florida, took to AFF and passed the course in two days.
  2

What are you doing this year? (i.e. team, commitment, goals, aspirations, fun jumping)

This year I have had a slow start because of an operation on my big toe and have only just started jumping.  Although I have done a quick 4-way training camp and a competition in Avignon and then the British Nationals and I will no doubt be doing some AFF as well.
3 Who inspires you in this sport?
I am inspired by loads of people, not just skydivers, although my good mate Lee Love is an inspiration, he is so determined and focused in everything he does.
4 Tell me about your favourite jump.
I can never remember any one jump in particular, but the one that seemed the most important was the last round of the 8-way nationals in 1996, when we (Army 9) won the gold by one point over the reigning champions, it had my favourite blocks in which I remember made me really optimistic beforehand.
5 If you could do one thing to improve the safety of the sport what would it be?
I think we’re going in the right direction with the wing loading limits, but other than making landing areas out of feather mattresses I can’t think of anything in particular to improve safety.
6 Favourite Food and favourite film?
Anyone who knows me will know that my favourite food is MacDonald’s and my favourite film is Raiders of the Lost Ark.
7 Skydiving tips to progress in this sport (i.e. weather related, training, attitude, coaching style)
    Sort out your priorities:  ALWAYS;

1.   Get good instruction

2.   Get practicing on the ground

3.   Get in the air as much as possible

4.   Get yourself back on the ground safely

N.B.  Get a really small Gucci rig is about number 54 in my list of priorities
8 When you’re not skydiving what do you do? (i.e. work, hobbies, interests)
I like to play golf, although I’m pants at it.
