The TS Team Interview

JP Reynard - 10th September 2005

Without JP, I would never have gotten into skydiving. He was there when I moved into my first shared house at University. "Hello, my name is JP Reynard and I am president of Leeds Metropolitan University Skydiving Club" is what I can remember. He had done 2 static-lines at this point. Charismatic, loveable, posh and a talented skydiver are all things definitely associated with JP. It is a pleasure to put his interview up here.

Interview by Simon Brentford

  4 Name JP Reynard
  4 Age 29 yrs and 31 Months
4 Years in the sport 13 Years
  4 Number of jumps 700
4 Number of jumps last year Not enough
4 What kit do you jump Sabre 150

1 Why did you start jumping?

Because the other clubs at Freshers Fair were not appealing enough – Karate was too dangerous and Orienteering was too Extreme!

  2

What have you been doing this year? (i.e. team, commitment, goals, aspirations, fun jumping)

A bit of everything – keen to get into proper camera work – Anyone know someone with a second hand camera suit for someone 6ft2?

3 Who inspires you in this sport?

Everyone who has stuck with it – Those who can forget about the 10 weekends being rained out and enjoy that one break in the weather to the full! Anyone who is willing to share their knowledge and experience for the good of the sport.

4 Tell me about your favourite jump.

Night jump at Lake Elsinore 2000! With Noel I believe!  All the jumps at Gap on the collegiate trip in 1999!  -  I have particularly fond memories of the ‘Corn Field’ ‘Jump’ in 1997  -  2-way I believe!

5 If you could do one thing to improve the safety of the sport what would it be?

I think that the standard of safety in the UK is pretty good.  Perhaps other countries should follow where the UK leads.

6 Favourite Food and favourite film?

Seafood and a nice cold bottle of Sancerre or a nice Thai Curry and ice cold beer.

Any James Bond film…… naturally…..(Not the newer ones – too much advertising and off the wall weaponry and not enough Casinos and sophisticated ladies)

7 Skydiving tips to progress in this sport (i.e. weather related, training, attitude, coaching style)

Don’t be scared to ask – there is a wealth of experience out there…. Use it!  If you are trying to master a specific discipline make sure you stay consistent and stick with it – a week booked in Spain/Portugal will be potentially more productive than 3 months of inconsistent jumping and relying on the weather.

8 When you’re not skydiving what do you do? (i.e. work, hobbies, interests)

MD of Quest Recruitment Solutions International Ltd – Headhunting company based in Brighton.  Enjoy shooting and tennis. Spend a lot my spare time wishing Hib was 100 miles closer!
