LOGO
COMPETITION
As some of you are aware, a new website is being
developed. In conjunction with this, we would
like to announce a new competition to design a
logo. A full brief can be found
here.
The winner gets 10 jump tickets (student or
experienced), a t-shirt with the winning design
on it and free Sunday roasts for a month. We are
looking for something modern, punchy and
visually reflective of the sport.

PROGRESSION DAY - Thursday

10-WAY
SPEED FROSTBITE FRIENDLY - 28/29th October 2006
This is arguably one of the biggest parties held
at Target Skysports each year. Every year,
people travel from far and wide to take part in
the 10-way speed competition. This year, we had
7 teams compete and although there was bad
weather on the Saturday, 5 teams did make it on
the Sunday morning to complete round 1. Kicking
and Screaming (Steve Doran) won the competition
with a build time of 36.1 seconds and +6 bonus
for completing 3 points afterwards. In second
place came the X-Factor led by Darren Bailey
with a good time of 37.2 and a +4 bonus.

SKYDIVE SPAIN CHRISTMAS
BOOGIE LINE-UP
Many of you maybe wondering which turbines we
are having at the Christmas Boogie at Skydive
Spain. Well, its all of them - 3 x G92 and 1 x
SMG. Fill your boots.
WEEKEND 7th - 9th October
2006 - Click

In the second of our Scrambles competitions this
year, we had 9 teams register. Simon Brentford,
Karen Bain and Simon Cathrine organised the
competition. The dive draw was different this
time to include some easy blocks with small
movements and some unusual formations. Skills
being tested were cross-referencing, working
towards your piece partner and altitude
awareness.
Although there was a lot of wind this weekend, 3
rounds were completed including special note to
several people who competed without their FS1
and scored many points. H is reviewing the tapes
and we will let you know who has to buy the
beer!

In other news, Leeds Uni and Hull Uni brought
their first time students along for their first
static line courses. Both did well and all
jumped on the Sunday. In fact, many did their
2nd jumps.
Lastly, Cyril Nightingale aged 90 did a
commemorative jump to celebrate the Arnham
landings. He plans to come back on his 100th
birthday for another parachute jump.
WEEKEND 9th - 10th
September 2006 - Click

Many teams were taking a well deserved break
from competition and 50-way this weekend, whilst
the others battled to win their classes in the
European Skydiving League finals in Spa,
Belgium.
Victories went to Rookie Class Phobia and
Murphy's Law who took Gold and Silver.
Congratulations also go to Escondido (4th) in
the A class and Wingnutz who won it. Also
congratulations to AA class attendees Damn Zebra
(3rd), Vertically Challenged 5th and Polaris
6th. Finally in the AAA class well done to
Fusion who came 5th.
This weekend, we also had visits from the Madame
Mayoress of Wakefield, Yvonne Travis and Lord
Charles St. Oswald. They were there to jump for
charities in their area and were represented by
the local TA and parachute regiment. There was
also a large group who raised money for Islamic
Relief led by Whaida Shafrey.
BCPA
TO COME TO HIBALDSTOW
Mark Fletcher from the BCPA has just announced
that the Freshers event will be held at the
dropzone on the 11-12th November. Competitions,
coaches and of course beer will be laid on.
WEEKEND
2-3rd September 2006 - Click

This weekend was originally booked in as the
reserve weekend for the 8-way and the Artistics.
However the competition was completed
successfully last weekend, so we had a 50-way
weekend instead. Unfortunately, the weather was
overcast, so no big-ways could be put up at all
on the Saturday. Sunday saw a break in the
weather briefly and with that came 2 jumps.
Considering the group had not done many jumps
together, they built a 48-way on the second
jump. Click
here to see the photos.

WEEKEND 12-13th August
2006
Weather was not on our side unfortunately with
no lifts taking off. This did not stop many
teams from turning up and all they could do was
groundwork. Douggie McLelland commented that
this had been a very useful time for team
Fusion. They worked through a lot of the exits
and consolidated their continuity plan.
To substitute for a lack of news, we have
something different for you. Katie Platt is a
recent addition to the Hibaldstow community. She
writes her experiences of her AFF level 6 jump
in the following poem.
Sat in the classroom for your brief
Knowing your safe, what a relief
Find a jumpsuit and a rig
Not too small but not too big
Kitted up and set to go
To the plane and through the unknown
Talk through your jump on the way there
Flying thousands of feet into the air
15,000ft you reach the place
Where nerves and thrill look you in the face
Out you go and face the wind
If you arch, the sky's your friend
Turns and rolls, tracking fast
Do it quick because it wont last
6,000ft wave-off and arch
5,000ft arch, reach and pull
Count 1000, 2000, 3000, 4000 and check your
canopy
Malfunctions and nuisances can be panicky
Take control and enjoy the ride
It gives you a warm feeling inside
Zig Zag around in the holding zone
Your talked down, your not alone
Listen to the instructors and do as they say
They know what they're doing at the end of
the day
Standby, Standby, Standby, Flare
Touch down on the ground, you've done it,
you're there
THE G-92 IS BACK
News just in is that the G-92 has passed
its flight test and has been returned to
operational duty. This weekend, there will be 2
G-92's operating as we are now a little over 1
week away from the FS Nationals.
WEEKEND 5-6th August 2006
This weekend was basked in good weather again.
Hannah Prideaux attained her FS1 on an amazing
dive with Geetha Narayanan, Rich Aveyard and
Simon Brentford. Hannah did 12 points in the
first 30 seconds after requesting that a slow
pace be taken! For the remaining 30 seconds, she
geeked the Noel Purcell on camera with the rest
of the team. Below is the dive she did.

Many other organised dives, tracking dives and
one-on-ones were made this weekend. Team Phobia
were also training with coach Simon Brentford.
NATIONALS INTERVIEW
We have 2 more interviews online in the
Nationals page - Andy Ibbetson and Andy
Scott. Take a look.
G-92 & SMG INFORMATION
The G-92 which had a hard landing recently is
well on the road to being repaired. The new stub
wing has been fitted, the engines are in and it
will be flight tested on Monday 7th next week.
Further, the 2nd SMG to be added to the fleet
will hopefully be ready August 15th.
WEEKEND 29-30th JULY 2006
- Click

Another sunny weekend, meant our G-92 and
SMG were busy all weekend. In addition to 4-way
teams training at the DZ, we had a BPA coaching
roadshow. Chris Hollis, Tarn Hollis, Simon
Brentford, Calvin Blacker, Karen Bain and Steve
Rossall were all on hand to provide coaching on
a 1:1 format and for 4-ways. 15 People
registered for the event including established
local team, Murphy's Law. The objective of the
roadshow was to provide no-fee coaching to
people looking to improve their FS ability.
Gavin Holderness managed to get within 1 jump of
his FS1 after doing nothing but solos for the
last 2 years!. Congratulations went to Ben
Cornick who got his FS1 with 16 points.
Next week, we have a BPA Instructors course
running. If you fancy doing some summer mid-week
jumping, let the dropzone know. We are open!.
New interviews will also be posted on the
Nationals page this week from topic people who
can offer different perspectives on the event.

This weekend equalled the record for the highest
turnout of a Grand Prix event with 23 teams
split across 4 categories in formation
skydiving. The scores leapt up from last year's
event. To put things in perspective, the Rookie
class saw 2 20's and a 24 scored in time.

In the Rookie class, it was obvious that many
teams had recently completed training camps.
Phobia, put a 2 point average on from their
previous competition, and Team 100% surprised
everyone with a 24 in time on the 5th round (H,
E, F). The separation from 2nd to 5th place in
the A class was very small. Exile and Maelstrom
came very close to taking medals and it was all
within a single round to decide who would take a
place on the podium.
The
AA class saw competition from Bodyflight team
Storm who has Kate Stephens in as alternate
against established Damn Zebra. Back in Bronze,
Vertically Challenged took Bronze despite their
lack of exit practice. Finally in the AAA class,
this biggest surprise of all was Havoc who put 2
points on their average and on some rounds were
only just being beaten by Rage. Fusion took 3rd
place having done very well considering bad
weather in their foreign training camps.
Chief judge, Karla Cole commented that the
overall standard this year was much higher and
made note of the camera people also. Alan
Thompson was chosen as the best camera person of
the event.
For the next weeks, many teams are training at
Hibaldstow, so if you are interested, please
give the dropzone a call.
MURPHY'S LAW & SHAVEN
HAVEN
In news which wasn't mentioned at the time,
congratulations goes to Murphy's Law who took a
Silver at the Sibson Grand Prix recently. Andy
Myers was jumping as alternate and considering
he is a Free Flyer, they did well together.
Congratulations also goes out to Shaven Haven
who took Bronze.
THIS WEEKEND - 22-23rd
July 2006
We will be operating a G-92 and an SMG for the
Grand Prix this weekend.
CAMERA PEOPLE NEEDED
Target Skysports is looking for committed,
reliable camera men and women. We have lots of
tandems which need filming, plus 4-way teams who
do not have their own camera. If you are
interested in working with us, please speak to
our CCI, H who will be happy to speak to you. He
can be contacted on 01652 648837.
WEEKEND

We had another busy weekend at the dropzone
with glorious weather. The main event, was a CRW
weekend linking canopies together in many
different formations. A big thank-you goes out
to Ian Marshall, Steve Saunders, Pat Hammond,
Eugene Brennan, Paul Yeoman and Gordan Mission.
They gathered more than 20 participants together
to work toward their CF1's.
CF1 - Rich Aveyard, Darren Bull, Dave
Humphries
First 4-way Stack - Pete Shew, Rich Aveyard,
Hinesh Patel, Darren Bull, Dave Humphries
First 8-way Stack - Rich Aveyard, Hinesh Patel,
Darren Bull, Dave Humphries
There will be more weekends organised soon from
the success of this one. If you want to see some
video of this weekends jumps, click
here. Thanks to Darren Bull for compiling
this.
In other news, we had nine 4-way teams training
with us - 100%, Phobia, Vertically Challenged,
Fusion, Rage, Havoc, Escondido, Storm and
Maelstrom. They contributed to 85 lifts over the
weekend. Simon Brentford and Chris Hollis were
also on hand to do some organising.
WEEKEND 15-16th July 2006
- 2 Turbines
News just in is that we will have 2 turbines
running at Hibaldstow this weekend - the SMG and
the G-92. We are coming closer to the Nationals,
so we wanted to make sure that all teams and
fun-jumpers were going to be able to get on the
lifts that they wanted.
WEEKEND 8 - 9th July 2006

As is usual, Target Skysports pulled out all the
stops to support what is becoming a very popular
annual event. Team names being Hibnosis
(Hibaldstow), Herding Cats (Langar) and 28 Hour
Party People (mixed).
Competition briefing started the Saturday at
0830 and the first team was in the air by 0915.
A crowd of people were on hand on the ground to
watch the aircraft running in and the first
formation being built over the DZ, accompanied
by cries of “go on, get in” by the ‘experts’ on
the ground!
The formation flying by the pilots, Tony De
Brugen and James Swallow, looked awesome from
the ground and even better from the aircraft.
From the G92 the Skyvan exits looked amazing and
watching the G92 from the tail of the Skyvan was
impressive too. A lot of people on their first
28 Way were amazed at the skill of the pilots
flying in formation.
The Team Captains, Simon Cathrine, Simon
Brentford & Dave Lewis were excellent in keeping
their teams focussed and motivated throughout
the day and were really impressive with the way
they worked on big way skills & safety with all
team members.
Herding Cats took an early lead, which they
maintained throughout, although both Hibnosis
and 28 Hour Party People looked a threat on some
of the rounds. Hibnosis managed to complete all
6 rounds by Saturday night, despite several
‘guest’ appearances from various members of the
Hib Staff, Herding Cats and 28 Hour Party People
completing 5 rounds by close of play on Saturday
night.
The bar soon got busy, helped by Gregster, who
was DJ for the night. Sadly, there was quite a
bit of ‘Dad’ dancing going on by the end of the
night. Unfortunately, Sunday started with poor
weather which gradually got worse. Team Captains
decided to call the Competition on Round 5, the
final scores being:

Consequently, Herding Cats retained the Trophy
from last years competition.
