How do I form a Scratch Team?
Last year we had 53 teams in the 4-way event. Many of those were formed with days to spare or even on the registration day itself. If you want to form a team have a look at this checklist:
4 Let the dropzone know by email or telephone ASAP
4 Work out what category you want to enter? You may have 1000 jumps, however you might also be able to provide some good coaching to a team of newcomers
4 Can you come to Hibaldstow a few days earlier and do a team training jumps. There will be plenty of decent coaches there
4 What position do you want in the formation? You may be an excellent at float exits but not enjoy outfacing moves. Take a look at the synopsis below of the positions of 4-way
4 For freefly teams, are you proficient at head-down and want to only do category Freefly A?

4-way Synopsis
The four slots in a 4-way team are: Outside Centre; Inside Centre; Point; and Tail. The slots refer to the position on exit. Outside Centre tends to be floating and Inside Centre will probably be diving. As you would expect Tail is closest to the aircraft’s tail and Point to the sharp end. The slots define where each person is most likely to be. Generally the two centres set up and key the formations. Tail will mostly be at the back of the formation looking in and Point is at the top, often facing out.

The most experienced jumper should be in either the Outside Centre or Inside Centre position, to control the launches. Beyond that, we figured Inside Centre needs to display awareness and communication, Outside Centre needs to be good at turning, Tail needs to be the quickest, and Point needs to be the most confident.

Rules

Rules and Regulations including Addendums

Please note the following important rules which should be brought to your attention and are only some listed in the main document.

Formation Skydiving Rules 2006

1. COMPETITION DATES

a) The 4-way will take place on the first weekend 19th - 21st August 2006. The draw for the 4-way will take place on Friday evening of the 18th August 2006 and if all rounds have not been completed by close of Monday 21st August 2006, the 4-way will continue over the second weekend, scheduled by the Meet Director, with the incomplete rounds being re-drawn on Friday 25th August 2006.

b) The 8-way will take place from the second weekend 26th – 28th August 2006. The draw for the 8-way will take place on Friday evening of the 25th August 2006 and if all rounds have not been completed by close of Monday 28th August 2006, the 8-way will continue over the third weekend, scheduled by the Meet Director, with the incomplete rounds being re-drawn on Friday 1st September 2006.

WEEKEND 2 ONLY – FORMAT
Should weekend 1 4 way FS not be complete, all incomplete rounds will be completed on weekend 2. Weekend 2 will start with rounds of 4 way FS first until 8 rounds have been completed to allow a meet to be called if needed. During “On year” selection, after the 6th round is complete the Open and or Female teams in first place in their category will continue to jump 4 FS 4 way rounds as a priority over junior / A / AA and all FS 8 way in order to achieve completion of as many rounds as possible up to ten rounds for funding criteria scoring. Once 8 rounds of FS 4 way are complete in all categories, 8 way FS will start. The semi-finals and finals of the 4 way will then be completed once judging, manifest and meet director see fit. FS 4 and FS 8 will not run together in order to avoid catch up situations arising. However if none of the team members conflict this may occur. During periods of non event activity, teams will be stood down for the duration of the other event rounds and be subject to a 1 hour notice of change in event between jumps. 1 hour notice of event change can occur an hour prior to the end of the other event but must allow competitors entered in both categories to have 1 hour on the ground at the DZ between events. At the end of weekend 2, the FS 4 way will be called a meet with results based upon the completed rounds. Teams who are not present for any round will be called as scheduled for that round and failure to attend will result in a nil score for that round only.

WEEKEND 3 FORMAT
Should weekend 2 FS 8 way not be complete, all incomplete rounds will be completed on weekend 3. At the end of weekend 3, the FS 8 way will be called a meet with results based upon the completed rounds. Teams who are not present for any round will be called as scheduled for that round and failure to attend will result in a nil score for that round only.

INCOMPLETE COMPETITION ROUNDS RE-DRAW
In the event of the competition event not being completed, a re-draw will be carried out on the Friday evening (date / time as per the admin instruction) on that next weekend as follows:
FS Junior / A / AA– All unused formations first and, if more rounds are required, then all formations will be used again to generate only the remaining rounds required.
FS Senior – unused formations only will be used for a re-draw to generate the number of rounds required

10. WIND TUNNEL
Competitors are reminded that under FAI rule 4.4 ( page 3 ) competitors are not allowed to use a wind tunnel (freefall simulator) after the draw has been made.

Freestyle Skydiving, Freeflying and Skysurfing Rules 2006

9 Reserve Weekend
Should the competition not complete then the reserve weekend will be used.
Any teams who are not present for any round will be called as scheduled for that round and failure to attend will result in a nil score for that round only.

Any Compulsory rounds incomplete at the end of weekend one will be disregarded. All teams will then complete the round/rounds with the Reserve Weekend re-draw only for incomplete compulsory rounds.

If the competition has not been completed by the end of the reserve weekend, then the meet competition will be called with result based upon completed rounds ONLY.

Discipline: the discipline will comprise the following events:

# Freestyle Skydiving, exit altitude 13,000 feet (3960m.) AGL, working time is 45 seconds.
A Category 7 Rounds, 2 Compulsory Rounds, 5 Free Rounds
B Category 5 Rounds, 1 Compulsory Rounds, 4 Free Rounds

# Skysurfing, exit altitude 13,000 feet (3960m) AGL, working time is 50 seconds.
A Category 7 Rounds, 2 Compulsory Rounds, 5 Free Rounds
B Category 5 Free Rounds

# Freeflying, exit altitude 13,000 feet (3960m.) AGL, working time is 45 seconds.
A Category 7 Rounds, 2 Compulsory, 5 Free Rounds
B Category 5 Rounds, 2 Compulsory, 3 Free Rounds
NB for Rounds 2 and 5 (speed Compulsory Routines), working time is 35 seconds.

NOTE: In order to compete in the A Category Freestyle, Skysurfing and Freeflying events, ALL PERFORMERS must hold the FF2 qualification. The reason for this is that some of the sequences require the performers to fly in a head-down orientation and, without this qualification, they may not be able to complete the round. FF1 must be held for Freefly and Freestyle B class. SS1 must be held for all skysurf competitors.

Speed Skydiving rules 2006

To compete for the best Meet Result. A Meet Result is made up of 3 jumps from “regular” skydiving altitude: 4000 meters (13 124 ft). Only regular skydiving gear in sale to be used. No extra weights allowed. Two “hip-mounted” Larsen & Brusgaard Pro-Tracks measure the average speed between 2700 meters (8858 ft) and 1700 meters (5577 ft). Extract the readings with Larsen & Brusgaard Jump-Track version 2.00.C or later.

Other Rules

In formation skydiving where the 2 point penalty for busting a formation is removed. In replacement, only 1 point is conceded and 3 points are lost when a complete formation is omitted. Juniors from now on will also use the entire random dive pool.

Cameramen must also note that if they are using 2 cameras, they may only submit footage from 1 camera. If there is a problem with the main camera, they can submit footage from the 2nd camera with the consent of the Chief Judge.

Another major change affects the cameraman. From now on, the benefit of doubt will not be given if a grip goes out of view during a block with sub-groups or if a random formation is keyed with a grip out of view.

For accurate guidance on all the rules and regulations please refer to the following documents help at the BPA website:

Last not least, the competition will be scored using Omniskore.

After the success of the 4-way weekend, Gemma will return for the 2nd weekend of the 8-way, Artistics and Speed.
