British National 8-Way, Freefly, Freestyle And Speed Championships

Tuesday, September 3, 2013

With the timely close of the 4-Way Nationals the weekend before, the dropzone’s full attention was on the smaller, but to it’s competitors, no less important second weekend of events.

The 8-way meet this year was graced with a new Rookie class to encourage teams to enter 8-way at a lower level. The new Rookie class, consisiting of only randoms was launched with some success – a total of three teams competed this year for the new trophy and to have a lot of fun trying something new.

There could only be one winner however and this year it went to Remote Control Squirrels with a 2.88 average.

Intermediate league also had three teams and so all was to play for. The tightest of all league was the battle for Silver and Gold with Awkward Turtles and our own Satori Academy fighting point by point for the top. The competition went to round 8 with the Turtles just pipping the Academy by two points to the top. Tense!

Senior 8-Way was well populated this year with five teams. The battle of course was always between the current, long term champions Microclim8 and the Brit Chicks who have been working hard to topple the leaders. A close battle to the end but Microclim8 once again took home the gold in 2013. Next year girls!

It perhaps felt like freefly was back on the agenda this year after a quiet few years at the nationals.

Freefly A and Freefly B brought together six teams which is a great turn out. Freefly A has been dominated by Volare for several years now and 2013 was not to end this with the boys taking gold again with an 8.44 average. Euphoria Freefly did not give up easily however with a 7.61 average and were closely tailed by Varial who took bronze.

With only two teams in Freefly B there was a clear difference between team Cushty and the Airheads who both podiumed with a 5.84 and 3.46 average respectively.

With Al and Pixie standing down it was time for a new freestyle champion! Two teams entered the freestyle A with Euphoria returning for a second year and this time taking gold over Revolution freestyle.

Freestyle B was an interesting show with for the first time in a long time a male freestlye competitior!

Speed information soon.
