Halloween 10-Way Speed Frostbite Friendly

Monday, October 31, 2011

In years past, the 10-way Speed Frostbite Friendly competition has really earned its name with seriously cold weather. This year however, the forecast was pretty good with mild temperatures. Stu Ferguson our resident events manager and load organiser decided to bring in a new format with the introduction of a 2nd competition, the 5-way Speed for the lower experienced teams.

Many thanks to the 5 team captains who decided  to lead their fearless competitiors – Simon Cathrine, Jo Hawley, Blyth Davies, Matt Lancaster and Ant Hill / Stu.

So onto the scores:

For a change, the winning team was the one with the lowest score and for each round, the time in seconds was subtracted by the number of points off it’s total. Since round 3 was a hoop dive, there was no time to score. So congratulations goes to team Show Us Yer Goolies. In the 5-way event, Matt Lancaster lead one team 4 Anvils and a Feather, with Ant Hill and Stu Ferguson sharing captaincy of team Goat Lovers. Unfortunately neither teams managed to complete any formations and this was compounded by high winds which stopped them getting past round 1.

Frazer Smith was on hand to coach and organise for the freeflyers with his last weekend of the year. He did a great job

managing to gather together a group of 10. They looked at the FS dive pool from the competition and with a few minor alterations were able to do a freefly version. Building the formations was much more difficult for the freefliers as various flyers had to be in both headup and headdown orientation.

Come Saturday evening, Stu and his team put their Halloween themed stage into the day room which consisted of a giant pelvis and skeleton you could walk underneath! They spent all week preparing for the biggest party of the year. Excellent entertainment was provided by regular band O.M.G. As usual, it was a fantastic fancy-dress party night and there were some amazing costumes on display.

This next week, we have a Packing Course (Wed) and a B-License Progression Day (Thu). At the weekend, we have the return of Stu’s Winter Warmers, so there is no excuse not to come.
