8th February - Hot News at
Skydive Hibaldstow

The
dropzone wants to warm up the winter for you by
offering you a special deal. Why not drop in on a
Friday night and get your bed in the bunkroom for
free. This is your opportunity to do some winter
socialising and enjoy a few beers.
On top of that,
every beer you buy gets you a raffle ticket entry to
that nights' draw, a Free Jump ticket. How
simple can it get? Drink beer and jump for free!
What's more, if you make the 9am load on Saturday
morning, it's worth 2 slots!
And this is just the beginning. In the near future,
there will be other fantastic offers to be
introduced such as free drinks and entertainment
Fridays as the nights come, so the question is, why
wait until Saturday? If you must wait, we have all
the usual skydiving goodies and a toasty warm SMG
for the high rides.
See you there.
3rd February 2010
Today saw the first trip of the year for
Wakefield's MPC (Military Preparation Course). The
jumpers, David, Bradley, Kieran, Zoe and Nicole had
all trained before Christmas and had been refeshed
by instructor Mike McNulty. The skies were clear and
the winds low, perfect for first time parachutists.
Well done to all who jumped and we hope to see you
back soon.

MPC is an LEA funded initiative attached to
Wakefield TA to help youngsters prepare for entering
the armed services. Last year we ran 4 courses and
hope to do many more this year.
If you have a group who would like to train, for
whatever reason, please drop us an email for more
details to
info@skydiving.co.uk.

30th to 31st January
This weekend saw a hardy lot face the cold, but what
a weekend we had! For those who ventured beyond
their duvets, the clear blue skies lasted all
Saturday and Sunday. Some of our new AFF students
turned up and it was good to see
Sarah Russon, Charlie Pearce, Lee Tinkler, Callum
Todd, Kathryn Campbell, Kirstie Antcliffe and Karl
Peart all getting back into the air.

We also saw the return of Amy Clarke who'd fought
the weather before Christmas so she took a flight to
Skydive Spain over Christmas to get through her
AFF and she has now come back to finish her
consolidation jumps.
Well done to Derek Wilkinson and Darren Norton who
got their AFF level 1's done.

If you are close to your currency limits, please
call us to discuss the options for getting refreshed
or retrained.
We also had more than a few tandems go through this
weekend and a big congratulations goes to Melanie
and Alex. Melanie proposed at 5000ft and Alex said
yes. Big cheers all round and we're sure we saw a
tear in tandem instructor Baldrick's eye!

23rd to 24th January
The weather at the dropzone was mixed unfortunately.
Only a few lifts took of. There was a of course a
big turnout for the free student retrains with
around 16 York University students coming down to
cash in on getting current for the beginning of the
season.
For the regulars there however, we had a
great seminar session and practical coaching from
Simon Cathrine. He talked about the importance of
max tracking which was quite well attended for the
Winter, especially as it was ad-lib. Over 20 people
were there receiving coaching on how to achieve
maximum seperation from formations of all sizes.
With a reasonable group there for Saturday night,
the students and regulars partaked in numerous games
of the classic 21s, beer jenga (where the loser buys
sambuka for the winners) and a reinvention of the
classic kids game 'Chicken Limbo'. The drozpone
edition saw 15 people finding out how low they could
go, with the added twist of having to pass under the
limbo line like a chicken. You can imagine how much
squalking and flapping there was! Suprisingly supple
Blyth Davies took first place, and right behind him
was Emily Labram grabbing 2nd place.
First news of 2010
Skydive Hibaldstow would like to wish
everyone a Happy New Year. It may be cold, but we
are working hard to make the 2010 season even more
successful than 2009!
So first of all, the dropzone will reopen again this weekend on the 16th
January. We have lots of tandems booked in and
turbine aircraft waiting for you to jump out of.
Many teams are now getting together to decide
which weekends and weeks they will be training over
the next 7 months to Nationals. If you click on Team
Training on the top left you can learn more about
the dates when the dropzone is open 7 days a week.
The emphasis on these training weeks are to get you
in the air as much as possible. That means,
efficient manifesting, quick turnaround, team
training rates and back to back lifts.
Between the 18th and 24th of January, the
dropzone is offering free student retrains on Static
Line and AFF courses. This is your opportunity to
blow away those cobwebbs since your last jump last
year, to kick start your skydiving course again.
The calendar for 2010 is rapidly filling up. Take
a look and decide which events interest you, or even
if you would like to see something added. We are
open to suggestions!
Next weekend is the exciting FS v FF 8-way speed competition. So far there are 6 teams registered for the event. Do you still want to come along? Telephone the office on 01132 505600 if you are.
